Welcome to the Paleo lifestyle vs the diet club mindset.
I have to say that my weight loss (I have lost over 6 stone) was down to three major things in my life:
- Eating less
- Exercising more
- Eating healthier
Number 3 of course started off as a typical newbie to Paleo that started by chopping out processed foods and then bit by bit adopting a much healthier food intake and lifestyle. It felt like it was very much based on what our grandparents grandparents did. They would have regular exercise, they wouldn’t go to all you can eat buffets or eat fast food and best of all they would eat their five a day everyday without even giving it a second thought.
Yet nowadays we are overloaded with all these diet clubs that tell us that we can eat huge amounts of processed foods and products that are very high in grains. It is having a negative effect on our body and means that we are constantly putting our body through a lot more than it should.
But I honestly believe that people are brainwashed. They believe that diet clubs (a billion pound industry I may add) will be the answer to their prayers and its so sad that it has become like this.
I am a member of a Facebook Group that promotes eat less and exercising more. Yet you get into the conversations of that group and most of them are still at the diet clubs and still failing to lose weight.
They have also spent years after year’s calorie counting and will avoid foods such as avocados, nuts, coconut oil and such like but have no problem with filling their plate with pasta or rice.
I also found that many people that are successful at diet clubs are those that regularly exercise and it makes you wonder if it is down to the actual diet club or the fact that you are simply moving more these days and not letting yourself sit on the couch all day!
The point I am making here though, is that if you want to be successful at Paleo and having a healthier lifestyle you need to stop thinking about calories and instead be focusing on nutrition and having a healthy life. Not just one that you focus on between now and Christmas but one that stands the test of time.
We are more than a year into our Paleo life and have not looked back and realised how truly amazing it really is!
