Now that the holidays are over, I want to share my experience as an avid paleo dieter. This dietary plan has changed the way I feel about food. The holiday meals were anything but boring. It was the first time in years when I haven’t gained a single pound over the cold season. While it’s true that keeping things healthy during the holidays can be a struggle, I have successfully managed to stick to my plan.
First of all, I have searched for Christmas recipes that my family enjoys. I have browsed the web, food magazines, and paleo blogs. Then I have tried to recreate classic holiday meals using paleo friendly foods. My list included delicious, healthy dishes like paleo style BBQ spare ribs, roasted leg of pork, steak with salad, orange apple turkey, meatball stew, cauliflower mash, French meat pie, and more. I have also listed savoury desserts, such as dark chocolate muffins, chocolate hazelnut fudge, lemon bars, and cinnamon glaze.
Next, I have asked my hubby and kids to look over the recipes and pick their favorites. It was a great experience for the whole family! We had a lot of fun in the process. Finally, we’ve chosen a few recipes and went shopping. I must admit that it wasn’t easy to see aisles of chocolate, pizza, stuffing, pumpkin pie, rolls, and other holiday treats. Temptation was everywhere. The people around us were filling their carts with all sorts of cakes and cookies. But we kept our eyes on the shopping list and moved on.
Cooking paleo style for Christmas was simply amazing. Everyone helped in the kitchen, so we’ve had a great time together. The kids washed and cut vegetables, mixed the ingredients, and asked funny questions. This was a great opportunity to tell them about the benefits of healthy eating. Most meals took minutes to cook, so it was really simple. Meal prep is a breeze on paleo! We’ve even made some paleo treats for our parents and siblings.
Our guests were surprised to find out that everything we cooked was paleo. The holiday meals looked and tasted fabulous! Now I’m happy for making this decision. I haven’t gained weight at all and felt great over the holidays. Most people I know struggle with indigestion, nausea, fatigue, and other health complaints after Christmas. We haven’t had any of these problems. The best part is that we had amazing food without having to worry about calories, sugar, or fats. Have you tried any paleo recipes over the holidays? If so, share them with us!
