Welcome to Paleo when you just want to eat cookie dough.
During my pregnancy (which is now over with) all I wanted to do was eat cookie dough. I would have a spare supply of butter in the fridge, brown sugar in the cupboard and plenty of flour in the pantry. Then when those cookie dough cravings took over my universe I would make as much of them as I could.
I would then sit there with a big bad bowlful of something that was as far away from Paleo as you could possibly get. I knew it was bad for me and along with a freezer full to bursting with Ben & Jerry’s, but I didn’t care.
I was at the last few weeks of pregnancy and was feeling horrible. I had low everything – low sugar, low blood pressure, low iron and was constantly running on empty. I was so tired it was an effort to walk to the toilet.
But what should I have done you ask?
I should have found something to give me a natural sugar boost without turning to low quality foods that not only were going to make me super fat but was also going to make me feel worse.
Since having my son though I have found that there are plenty of Paleo style chocolate fixes that we could all have without needing to go down the route of unhealthy cookie dough.
My favourite by far though is chocolate mousse. This is instead of the cookie dough and gets rid of the cravings in an instant. To make it you mix together ½ an avocado, 1 banana, 1 cup coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of honey, cocoa nibs and a little cocoa powder. Then you are done and it is so delicious.
I could eat it everyday and I just wish I had discovered it sooner and then I might not have felt so rough or I would weigh a lot less now.
You could also do the same thing if you have chocolate cravings or alternatively mix it up a bit with whatever fruit you have in. You will always need avocado or banana as your thickener, you could use almond milk instead for the mixing and then you could pick other fruits or nuts that you have in.
For example another version I liked was pineapple instead of banana and it tastes more like a pina colada rather than a chocolate mousse but it is all down to personal taste.
