Welcome to Paleo and pregnant at 38 weeks.
This is the time when you either get nervous or start panicking about what you have going on, or just get on with it and get super excited about the moment. For us we are busy working at the moment and it’s that plan to get everything done before the baby comes along and for things not to go wrong in between that time.
On top of this we are at the end of the summer heat and because I am so tired at the moment I just seem to want everything and anything.
I always find with pregnancy that in the first trimester you consume about 700 calories a day or less thanks to the morning sickness and just not feeling up to your food. Then you enter trimester two and return to your normal way of life and calories can go up to 1200 and sometimes 1500. Then in the final trimester when you are supposed to be eating an extra 300 calories a day you tend to hit around the 1800 calories a day mindset.
Having said that I find that in the later months that all you want to do is eat foods that are higher in fat as your baby grows and it demands more and more of the natural fats in order to expand in size. This is of course another great time to increase your avocado and coconut oil consumption or to have a lot more salads that are high in olive oil and other similar fats.
I went to the doctors last week, to which I was told that I had a really low blood pressure and to increase my salt intake. Well with the world of Paleo and the fact that I don’t eat processed foods, I find that this is something I am always lacking in. Therefore every meal my husband has cooked me over the last couple of weeks have been very high in salt and to be honest, I hate salt with a passion. But its part of the territory when you have a low blood pressure and I can’t wait to have a baby in my arms and to be able to celebrate a return to great health.
Then it is going to be great fun getting fit and healthy while following the Paleo way of life. So watch this space for an update on our future arrival!
