Welcome to my latest blog post on Heavy2Healthy and I can now say that I am 28 weeks pregnant and still doing Paleo!
This is going to my third pregnancy and the difference between this one and my first two is that this time around I am healthy. From a non-healthy to a healthy point of view it is amazing the difference it makes to carry a baby.
During the first two pregnancies I have had way too many McDonalds, lots of processed foods and don’t get me started about the high chocolate and crisps quantities. They were bad and so was my diet. But because I have never been one for huge portion sizes I never put that much weight on.
In fact I remember with my second pregnancy that I binged on McDonalds a lot and had cravings for Big Macs and for McChickens all the time. Yet when she was born I weighed less than I did before pregnancy and she was only six pounds. I just couldn’t believe something so small could have given me so many bad food cravings.
But six months before my third child was conceived I discovered Paleo and vowed to stick to Paleo at least 75% of the time and to be healthier.
These are the results I have had (so far):
My Skin Is Horrible
I know you’re supposed to say it is great and that by eating healthy that my skin has improved and I am glowing but I am actually the opposite. My craving of choice is avocados and I have a mild allergy to them so the doctor has put me on an anti-biotic face cream. Though no matter how bad my skin looks there is no way I am giving up on my avocados as they are my food world at the moment!
I Don’t Want A McDonalds
Normally I would crave McDonalds but I think a lot of it is that my body was not getting enough healthy fats so I was just going after the bad ones. But with this pregnancy I am having lots of avocados, coconut oil and plenty of olive oil. I have had two McDonalds since the start of the pregnancy and both times it has been when I have been desperate for food and that’s been about the only choice, not because I actually craved it!
I Feel Fit
I mean I am hardly going to run a marathon but I feel fitter than I did in other pregnancies. I have recently had a holiday and not felt tired, still cook twice a day, still work full time and I just don’t feel phased by any of it.
Though I plan to update you on my pregnancy every two weeks just to see how I get on in the later weeks, just to see how eating healthy and being fairly active is helping me along the way!
