Welcome to how to do Paleo when you’re allergic to nuts.
It always feels that because nuts are so good for you, well that is unless you are eating peanut butter, that it is an obsession in the Paleo way of life. Actually it is not just Paleo with most diets this seems to be the norm.
But I am allergic to nuts and my son is too. It makes our healthy Paleo lifestyle rather hard to do and we find it difficult at times.
Only yesterday we were sent some Paleo grain free granola and it seemed to have more nuts in it than any other product and it was such a shame that we had to put it to one side and couldn’t actually try them!
But if you are allergic to nuts it can be a real challenge and this is what we find works best for us:
For snacks we find that the best thing for us is to have things that give us a nutritional value but still work as an aid to beat off chocolate cravings and our sweet tooth. We love to have a lot of raisins, dried fruit, coconut milk mixed with honey into a fruit sauce, fruit and of course homemade smoothies.
We also like to have some dark chocolate too and we find this keeps us very satisfied and happy with what we are eating.
Careful With What We Buy
You also need to be careful when you are buying Paleo style grocery products. A lot of alternative products to unhealthy favourites carry nuts in them in order to offer nutritional value. So always research it well and look for some really good alternatives.
Then find products that you like that are nut free and then have a list of go to products and then it saves having to look all the time.
Or experiment yourself and come up with delicious nut free alternatives to what other people are eating right now.
Other Fat Sources
Nuts are often incredibly popular because they are a carrier of good fats. So while everyone else is having nuts you work on your favourite natural fats. Increase your avocado intake, have more olive oil in your cold salads and don’t forget to cook everything with coconut oil.
I also find that if you play around with ingredients that you will find a good balance and will not feel like you are missing out on anything at all.
